Just as the custom is now, wherein most smartphones come in a pair (Plus and Minus), Xiaomi has followed suit and it is out with its latest flagship, a high-end device, the Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus which are significant updates to the older Mi 5.
The Xiaomi Mi 5s features a all-metal unibody design, 5.15-inch 1080p IPS LCD Full HD display, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC 2.15GHz processor, a 3GB/4GB LPDDR4 RAM and 64GB/128GB storage, a 13-megapixel rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture with a larger 1/2.3-inch Sony CMOS sensor, and a 4-megapixel front-facing camera, ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, Android Marshmallow OS, a Bluetooth v4.2, NFC, dual-band MU-MIMO 802.11ac Wi-Fi and 3xCA network connectivity, USB Type-C support, a 3,200mAh battery and a QuickCharge 3.0 technology.
However, the Mi 5s Plus, just as the name suggests, is a Plus of the Mi 5s featuring a larger display 5.7-inch 1080p IPS LCD Full HD, It pairs a curved glass shell with its metal body and powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC 2.35GHz processor, a 4GB/6GB LPDDR4 RAM with 64GB/128GB storage, Android Marshmallow OS, a 3,800 mAh with Quick Charge 3.0 technology, capacitive fingerprint sensor, USB Type-C support, a 4-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 13-megapixel dual rear cameras, one that captures photos in black and white and the other in color. The black and white camera lacks an RGB Bayer filter, allowing it to capture more light than a color camera. The company opines that the necessity for this results in better image quality with less noise and sharper details.
Both phones come in four different colors—silver, gray, rose gold, and pink.
The Mi 5s will be available in China starting from yesterday (September 29)
at the price of ￥1999 ($300) and ￥2299 ($345) for the 3GB+ 64GB and the 4GB+128GB variants, respectively. The Mi 5s Plus is priced at ￥2299 ($344) and ￥2599 ($389) for the 4GB+64GB and the 6GB+128GB variants, respectively.
A considerable price for such high-end smartphones, interesting!
