Snap Inc., popularly known for its creation of the image messaging app (Snapchat), just like its counterparts, Facebook, Twitter, Google and Instagram, who launched their updated app in this month, have also included its innovation in the appraisals of this month.
Undisturbed by the failure of Google's glasses, which was more wowing, delivered news, messages and calls directly to a user’s field of view, but was discontinued last year January for reasons unknown, Snapchat has decided to launch its own video recording spectacles, which we hope will last the test of time.
According to the WSJ, Snap is not treating the device as a major hardware launch, rather a fun toy that will have limited distribution.
Mr. Evan Spiegel, C. E. O, Snap Inc., stated that, "We’re going to take a slow approach to rolling them out, it’s about us figuring out if it fits into people’s lives and seeing how they like it".
The Spectacles feature a 115-degree lens which is meant to closely approximate how humans see, up to 30 secs video recording at a time, a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi option for transfer of images to smartphones (For Android devices, you have to transfer them via Wi-Fi. For iOS devices, you can transfer by default via the glasses' Bluetooth connection or you choose to transfer them at a higher resolution over Wi-Fi), and a battery that can last for a day.
The Spectacles is said to come with a dedicated charging case and cable which Snap Inc. says that when fully charged, the case can recharge your Spectacles up to four times. Interesting!
Also, it is said to have an inward-facing light that turns on when you're snapping, and an outward-facing light that alerts anyone in your field of vision.
The device is available in three colors: black, teal, and coral and will go on sale later this year priced at $130 (£100).
