Netflix, an American multinational entertainment company, announced in January, at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas, that it will be available in Nigeria, amidst 130 new countries, now it has stayed through to its words and over the weekend, announced the deployment of a dedicated Netflix server in Lagos, Nigeria, in collaboration with Spectranet.
The server being the first in West Africa, will hold the entire Netflix content library in Lagos, allowing users to stream video faster and enjoy TV series whenever they choose to.
David Venn, Spectranet’s CEO, said, “Because we focus on providing families with an excellent and affordable broadband service, this partnership with Netflix means that our customers will be able to enjoy the very best TV experience available in Nigeria. We are honoured that Netflix has selected Spectranet for one of its first deployments in Africa and the only one in West Africa.”
A bigger competition for local video content services like Iroko is about to emerge with the arrival of Netflix in Nigeria!
