Did you know that India is the biggest technology consumers market in the world?
Tech companies see a big untapped market in India and are working towards stamping their footprints there. For instance, Google has over 1.5 million Indians that are already using its free Wi-Fi services at 19 train stations across the country. Also, Facebook celebrates India to be its fastest growing market compared to the average of the rest of the world.
Adam Mosseri, VP, Product Management at Facebook, reports that the daily active users in India has grown 22 percent year-on-year compared with 17 percent globally and that the monthly active users of Facebook in India is over 155 million, of which 77 million access the network daily. Meanwhile, 147 million access Facebook from their phones every month and 73 million every day.
Also, according to Live Mint, Adam Mosseri explains the brighter future the company sees in India, and has outlined how the company intends to grow in the country. "Our primary focus right now is for the next billion people to come online and India is OBVIOUSLY a huge part of that."
"We care so much about India because it is an important market, and growing at such a fast pace. It is also different from all the markets I have focused on. Networks, language and content fragmentation, are all very different. In some ways, Facebook is eyeing growth in tier-II, tier-III, rural areas and places where feature phones are still dominant," he said.
Currently, Facebook has its products available in 12 regional languages and it is looking forwards to more regional languages, because above 89 percent of Indians can’t speak English, Mosseri said.
