Ever wanted a more fun nanny for your kids or a better companion that can keep your kids busy while you work? AvatarMind has created the answer you might need.
The iPal is a robot in build, but human in nature, designed to be a "full time companion," for your kids, combining a cute cartoon outlook, fine craft work, natural language understanding technology and cloud apps.
This should not be a surprise, since we've got many autonomous machines lurking this age now. Thus, creating a human-robotic nanny is just a piece of cake.
"Human" in nature? What does that mean? This is a significant feature of the iPal.
It has many built-in sensors to feel, touch, listen to speech and detect emotion - with its "emotion management system" it senses and responds to whatever the mood is. It is said to be happy when your child is happy and encourages them when they are depressed.
The iPal is 3ft tall, has wide eyes, four wheels and a 6-inch touchscreen LCD screen on its chest and a 3-watt soundsystem, amongst others. It can talk and continue conversations with children, answer any questions thrown at it and provide surveillance/video chat for absent parents, which help it monitor growth, and can be accessed by parents on their phone - wherever they may be by this point. Also, comes with a bunch of apps to read bedtime stories to your child and make sure your child wakes up on time.
AvatarMind founder, Jiping Wang stated that, "it is a robot for children. It is mainly for companionship. And could keep children aged three to eight occupied for “a couple of hours” without adult supervision. It is perfect for the time when children arrive home from school a few hours before their parents get off work".
The Guardian reported that the human-robotic nanny showed off its babysitting skills at an annual robotics event in San Jose, California. Although, currently serving children in China, is hoped to be brought to US soon.
